Check Current Waiting Periods
Before requesting an appointment, we recommend that you check the current waiting periods at the Jesenice General Hospital and waiting periods elsewhere in Slovenia, which are available on the eHealth (eZdravje) Project website. At our hospital, the waiting periods for health services often exceed the maximum allowed waiting periods. Although we make every effort to provide care to each and every patient who needs our services, we advise you to check the waiting periods of all institutions and, if necessary, to choose the required health service at another provider.
The maximum allowed waiting times are defined in Article 9 of the Rules on Appointments and Waiting List Management and the Maximum Allowed Waiting Periods (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 3/18).
Maximum Allowed Waiting Period
The maximum allowed waiting period is determined by the level of urgency, as follows:
Urgent – 24 hours,
Very Quick – 14 days,
Quick – 3 months,
Regular – 6 months.
If, when putting a patient on the waiting list, it is established that the provider exceeds the maximum allowed waiting period, the patient should be advised to seek the service with another provider in the public health network where the waiting period is within the allowed limits.
Exception: when a malignant disease is suspected, it is mandatory to determine the level of urgency as urgent or very quick.
Validity of Referrals
The due dates for referral submission depend on the level of urgency, as follows:
Urgent – no later than the following day,
Very Quick – within five days,
Quick or Regular – within 14 days of issuing the referral.
If the patient does not submit the referral promptly, he or she will not be placed on the waiting list, or the medical service may not be carried out.
The patient can cancel the appointment once, without giving any reason, but must do so at least ten days prior to the appointment. The exception is an unexpected patient illness or emergency, such as the death of a close family member, in which case the appointment can be cancelled later.
